1. Before choosing a method of storage you must decide what you need to store. This includes factors of how much of it there will be because this then leads to the time it will take.
2. You also need to decide how often you would like to update your stored data and this relates to how often the data is changed.
3. You should consider the type of computer and network systems you are using, whether they can handle your required data storage and what will be compatible.
4. Think about where you want your data to be stored. Do you want it online, on disc or on a different network? We have many options to choose from.
5. Always use antivirus protection along with data storage because harmful viruses can be created to access and corrupt the data or the whole computer system.
6. Re-evaluate your data storage options every now and again because when your business grows there may be other methods that suit your newly larger business.
7. Try and get yourself a disaster recovery plan in place for your data storage. You always need a plan for this to avoid any disruption to business.
8. Have a member of staff that overviews the data storage, checking you still have enough room available for more, checking the procedures and other factors to help it run smoothly.
9. Don't forget to update your stored data if necessary. If you need to use your disaster recovery plan, out of date information is useless.
10. Keep your stored data organised. Have a folder with sub folders because when you come to need this data, you want to be able to find what you are looking for.

A US wireless infrastructure was put to the test after 5.8 magnitude earthquake hit near Richmond on the East Coast.
As millions of callers tried to make phone calls and send messages the huge spike in call volumes jammed the lines leaving people frustrated and angry as the network congestion demonstrated how the carriers simply weren’t prepared for a large-scale catastrophe.
To industry officials, though, the networks' ability to right itself after the initial crush of calls was encouraging and was a huge improvement from a decade ago, when the September 11th attacks caused outages for hours and days afterward.
"Our network sustained no physical damage and performed ruggedly and durably despite the magnitude of the earthquake," said Bill Kula, a Verizon Communications Inc. spokesman.
Natural disasters are inevitable and often unpredictable which is why it’s important to ensure that your business is prepared. Here at Elite Telecom we offer a range of disaster recovery services so you can enjoy business continuity should disaster strike.

Zurich Insurance is once again in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. Back in August 2008 the South African arm of the insurance company misplaced an unencrypted backup tape and the incident wasn’t found out by Zurich Insurance for a whole year.
Now, Zurich Insurance has just been handed the largest fine ever given by the Financial Services Authority – a huge £2.28 million. The fine was given after it was revealed that Zurich had lost the personal details of 46,000 customers who could be exposed to burglary and fraud now. After the 2008 incident, Zurich said it highlighted its need for better data security. But it looks as though this fell by the wayside.
Oracle, the global software and hardware company, has announced a new set of features for its StorageTek tape-based data storage solutions. The main improvement in the storage solution is the increase in size of possible systems to 150 petabytes.
The StorageTek SL8500 series has a slot capacity of 100,000 up from 70,000 and it is also capable of storing up to 1.5TB of data. As far as data storage systems go, Oracle has once again put tape storage at the forefront of storage, rather than as just an archival system. In a world of cloud storage and virtualisation, tape can still hold its own.
According to a new survey by IT security company AVG, many people across the UK are using data storage with no backup – in other words, they’re storing valuable data on their PCs with no security and no backup.
About 31% of people in the AVG poll had lost information they couldn’t replace that was stored on their PCs. The main causes of losing data were;
-PC malfunction
-Virus
-Human error
-Computer damage
-Power cut
Looking after your computer, getting the experts in should it malfunction and using antivirus software are all measures that may just save your data.

Verizon and IBM have gone into partnership to offer a risk management service for cloud-based computing. As simple as it is effective, the service basically makes automatic copies of all business data that you send to the cloud.
Cloud-based computing has gained popularity recently, however it has failed to gain the total trust of the telecoms world. By making copies of all data sent to the cloud, IBM and Verizon are giving companies peace of mind where their data is concerned. With the ‘Managed Data Vault’ service, if something goes wrong in the cloud, customers can retrieve a file, restore a device, or recover from a serious outage. What a way to back up your data!
