Researchers have made a major step toward a holographic videoconferencing system that would let people communicate with one another almost as if they were in the same room - 2010 called; it wants its VoIP back.
In a nutshell a bunch of cameras take two dimensional images of an object from different angles, a PC desktop then converts it into data and a laser recording system sends the data (via Ethernet) to a hologram location. This conjures up a four by four inch hologram which then refreshes every two seconds.
Is that it? And we thought it was something special. However, before we are forced to cut off our tongues in disappointment, the researchers are working at a pretty alarming rate and have told us that we may see viable holographic technology in the next decade.
Check out this somewhat silent video that shows us the holographic display images developed from research by the folks over at the University of Arizona and Nitto Denko Technical Corp.

If you’re thinking that your business could certainly benefit from holographic imagery, however you can’t wait that long, we reckon that you could just settle for video conferencing instead.
