Microsoft, the software giant and unified communications provider, has announced that it is looking for a partner in China in order to enter the internet search engine market and play a large role in it.
According to the Chief Executive of Microsoft in China, Simon Leung, the company will be investing around $100 million (approximately £65 million) in companies in China.
Although Leung gave no timeframe for Microsoft’s move into the internet search market, he did say that the company will invest in sectors such as cloud computing, gaming and software.

Microsoft is due to release a new security patch next week on Tuesday August 10th. This new patch will contain 14 bulletins that will patch 34 vulnerabilities. For telecoms followers, this will be the largest amount of bulletins released by Microsoft in a month.
Out of the 14 bulletins, 8 have been rated critical by Microsoft. This generally means that the patch is to stop bugs that can execute malware with little or no user interaction. The United States Justice Department has accused Oracle, the software and hardware systems company, of defrauding the federal government. The accusation concerns a software contract that involved hundreds of millions of dollars.
The federal government has filed a legal complaint against world-renowned Oracle, claiming that the company misrepresented its sales practices in order to make more money. According to the federal government, government customers of Oracle got worse deals than commercial customers. So Oracle is accused of defrauding the federal government – don’t get them wrong, the U.S. government wanted an unfair system, just unfair in their favour.
Microsoft has reacted to the security worries of its customers and is due to release an ‘out of band’ patch today, for the shortcut vulnerability.
According to Microsoft, there has been a large increase in hackers attempting to use the shortcut vulnerability. This vulnerability allows malicious code to be implemented by users viewing a directory with an infected shortcut (LNK) file. According to the company, it only affects Vista, Windows 7 and Windows XP.
Security vendors have been issuing stop-gap patches for Microsoft customers that are, rightly, worried about this vulnerability. Finally though, Microsoft will release the tried-and-tested patch today.

Steve Ballmer, the chief executive of Microsoft, has said that he hopes the move will allow businesses in South Korea to develop and improve their productivity.
