We can show you how the latest IP based products can be utilised to deliver real time applications that enable you to run reliably on wired and wireless networks.
What is VoIP and IP?
VoIP stands for ‘Voice over IP’. IP or ‘Internet Protocol’ is the method by which the digitised voice signal is transmitted over computer networks rather than the more traditional PSTN (Public Switch telephone Network).
A common mistake is to assume that the use ‘Internet Protocol’ means that calls go via the public internet and are therefore free of charge. Whilst it is possible to make free calls across the internet (using Skype for example), it is not suitable for business users as there is no guarantee of call quality and the person or company you are calling must be in a position to accept the call at the other end with an Internet connected phone.
For business quality calls VoIP is used, but calls are transited over computer networks that are set up to guarantee QoS (Quality of Service). The calls are much cheaper than those carried out over PSTN and can be a huge saviour for those businesses frequently making international calls.
Another term often interchangeable with VoIP is SIP. SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is the network communications protocol used to control the flow of voice and fax calls using VoIP and the method of transmitting the call.
SIP and VoIP can be considered as your virtual ISDN lines, but with a higher level of reliability and flexibility. It allows you to combine voice, fax and data on one network to simplify your communications and management. Running costs are significantly reduced and your telephone bill can be reduced by up to 60%.

What is the difference between Premises based VoIP & Hosted VoIP?
As suppliers of IP enabled premises based systems and hosted services, we know how confusing it can be to understand the fundamental differences between the two.
On-premise systems are telephone switching systems (PBX) that run within your in-house infrastructure and connects to the public switched telephone network either using traditional ISDN connections or using SIP trunks. With Hosted VoIP services the PBX is located in our highly secure resilient data centre, and only the desktop or softphones are in your offices.
Both services require a suitable network connection to carry the voice traffic and guarantee quality. Hosted VoIP lacks the ability to integrate with other business systems to control call flow and on the plus side there is no need to have any supporting IT systems making it ideal for smaller businesses. It’s all about finding the solution best for your business’ needs.
